¡Celebremos la Vida!
¡Celebremos la Vida! provides free breast and cervical cancer education and screening to medically underserved Hispanic women at clinics in several locations. The clinic at the Spanish Catholic Center in Washington, D.C., operates one weekday a month and provides services for primarily Spanish speaking patients. The clinic at the Lombardi Cancer Center of the Georgetown University operates one Saturday a month. Spanish-speaking volunteers are needed to assist in patient navigation, health education, instruction in BSE, and administrative duties.
Project Early Awareness – Howard University
Project Early Awareness: A Breast Health Education for High School Girls, is a unique program that provides education and awareness of breast health and breast cancer to high school girls in the District of Columbia. The program is conducted in D.C. public high schools throughout the school year. Volunteers are needed to assist the program coordinator with health education sessions and administrative duties. Volunteer must be willing to give a semester long commitment with the amount of time per week to be determined by his or her availability.
Dialogue for Action
Dialogue for Action is a conference that encourages long-range planning to increase colorectal cancer screening rates. The state-level Dialogue for Action conferences engage colorectal cancer screening stakeholders. The Dialogue for Action project culminates in a summit to develop strategies for prevention and early detection of colorectal cancer in underserved populations. Experienced volunteers are needed to analyze existing survey data and to conduct literature searches for material used for the Dialogue conferences. Spring Gala
Held each year in early March at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C., this event raises millions to support of Prevent Cancer Foundation programs. Nearly 1,000 cancer prevention supporters attend this elegant gala, which is well represented by members of Congress, the business and medical communities and the Diplomatic Corps. Volunteers are needed to help with various duties as needed during the event.
Step Away from Cancer 5K
Join the Foundation as we celebrate our second annual Step Away from Cancer 5K™! This exciting event will take place on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at West Potomac Park, Washington, DC.
